FAQ - Cannot connect to MatCalc server
This FAQ covers the solutions for the problems which may appear by downloading the updates from MatCalc homepage
Diagnosis
- A message 'Unable to connect to Matcalc Website' appears in MatCalc news window.
- An error message 'Could not connect to matcalc.tuwien.ac.at' appears in console window after starting of MatCalc.
Background
When starting the software, MatCalc tries to connect to the MatCalc web server to check for available updates or news.1) Whenever there is a disturbance in the connection or download, MatCalc will report about that.
Remedy
Check your network settings… or let it have checked by your network administrator
- Check if you are connected to internet at all
- Open your internet browser and see whether you can open any external internet sites.
- Check your firewall settings
- Make sure that matcalc.tuwien.ac.at is not in the list of blocked sites.
- Eventually, add matcalc.tuwien.ac.at to the list of trust-worthy sites (this will likely be done by your sytem administrator).

MatCalc does NOT send any user data from your computer to our site. MatCalc only receives information from the server to compare current software versions and receives a file containing the MatCalc news.
